Ask The Expert: School trust fined after pupil’s finger was amputated
Who should maintain fire extinguishers?
Fire extinguisher maintenance must be carried out by law by a competent person who has received the correct training and is supplied with the correct tools and equipment. We can take on the responsibility of the competent person to ensure all fire extinguishers are maintained correctly and diligently.
Do fire extinguishers expire?
Yes, unfortunately, no fire extinguisher will last forever. Each has a limited manufacturer's guarantee and shelf life. A Carbon Dioxide extinguisher has a 10-year shelf life, with others usually having 5 years, depending on their type. This is why all fire extinguishers must be serviced and regularly checked for damage or misuse as part of an internal fire warden’s regular audit of a workspace.
Any fire extinguishers and blankets deemed unfit for use will be brought to the customer's attention and removed from service.
