UKATA Asbestos Awareness

Asbestos awareness training is required for employees whose work can expose them to asbestos.

In particular, it should be given to all demolition workers and those workers in the refurbishment, maintenance and allied trades where their work will disturb the building fabric because asbestos-containing materials may become exposed during work.

  • Entry Requirement: There are no formal qualifications needed to study this course.
  • Course Length: Half Day
  • Assessment: A multiple-choice exam consisting of at least 15 questions under exam conditions.

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is for those who have no intention of removing Asbestos but work on buildings built or refurbished before the year 2000 where Asbestos could be present. It aims to raise awareness of the dangers of Asbestos but does not train individuals to work with any Asbestos Containing Materials.  

Participants could include, but is not limited to, demolition workers, construction workers, general maintenance staff, electricians, plumbers, gas fitters, painters and decorators, joiners, plasterers, roofers, heating and ventilation engineers, telecommunication engineers, fire and burglar alarm installers, computer installers, architects, building surveyors, shopfitters and other such professionals.

Are there any entry requirements?

There are no formal qualifications needed to study this course.

What does UKATA Asbestos Awareness include?

Upon successful completion of the UKATA Asbestos Awareness Course, participants will;

  • Have increased awareness of the properties of Asbestos and its effects on health, including the increased risk of lung cancer for asbestos workers who smoke
  • An awareness of Asbestos Containing Materials  (ACMs)
  • Develop knowledge of the hazards and risks posed by ACMs
  • Understand the risks from ACMs within your everyday working environment
  • Understand how to avoid asbestos disturbance
  • Be able to provide information on legislative measures in place to safeguard yourself and those around you.

 

How long is the UKATA Asbestos Awareness Certificate valid for?

The UKATA Asbestos Awareness Certificate is valid for 12 months from the date of issue.

How is this course assessed?

The participants will be assessed by a multiple-choice examination consisting of at least 15 questions under exam conditions. A pass rate of 80% or more must be achieved to pass this course successfully.

If you prefer to self-study, we provide an e-learning course requiring a minimum time of self-study which may differ depending on the course and your previous knowledge or expertise in the field or area.

A closed course is available for your team only. If you have multiple team members who require training, this is logistically easier and cost-effective for upskilling your team.

  • On Site

    This course is delivered by a trainer on-site. If you don’t have a room suitable on your site for training, you may hire a local venue where we can deliver this training to your team members.

  • Stallard Kane Training Room, Gainsborough

    This course is available in our training room in Gainsborough and is suitable for businesses that do not have training facilities.

  • Virtual Course

    This course can be delivered exclusively to your team virtually via zoom.
