    Fire Extinguisher Maintenance & Installation

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person (person responsible for fire safety) within an organisation is legally required to appoint one or more competent persons to assist in undertaking preventative and protective measures to minimise the risk of fire. This includes maintaining all fire extinguishers in all commercial and legally required buildings.

    Who should maintain fire extinguishers?

Fire extinguisher maintenance must be carried out by law by a competent person who has received the correct training and is supplied with the correct tools and equipment. We can take on the responsibility of the competent person to ensure all fire extinguishers are maintained correctly and diligently.

    Do fire extinguishers expire?

Yes, unfortunately, no fire extinguisher will last forever. Each has a limited manufacturer's guarantee and shelf life. A Carbon Dioxide extinguisher has a 10-year shelf life, with others usually having 5 years, depending on their type. This is why all fire extinguishers must be serviced and regularly checked for damage or misuse as part of an internal fire warden’s regular audit of a workspace.

Any fire extinguishers and blankets deemed unfit for use will be brought to the customer's attention and removed from service.

How often should a fire extinguisher be serviced?

Fire extinguishers must be serviced annually to ensure their effectiveness and compliance. Our qualified engineers will attend the premises to perform the necessary servicing in accordance with BS5306.

What is involved in a fire extinguisher service?

    A basic service involves:

    • A full safety inspection.
    • Replacement of the seals and O-rings.
    • Testing of pressure gauges (not applicable for CO2 Extinguishers) - where fitted
    • Clean the operating mechanism
    • Updating service labels and safety tag
    • Ensuring wall mountings and signage are secure and in good condition.

Do you install and commission fire extinguishers?

Yes, we offer a fire extinguisher installation and commissioning service. We can also supply the correct fire extinguishers.

If your fire risk assessment identifies the need for additional extinguishers, contact us for installation and commissioning.
